9 Tips for Comfortable Activewear for Women

When it comes to dressing for the colder months of the year, we’re often left in a bit of a cold sweat. Between layers, sweaters, cardigans, and coats, there seems to be an endless variety of ways to stay warm. But for all that layering and wrapping — not to mention all those buttons — also means you might feel as if your clothes are strangling you. If only there was some way to wear activewear without sweating so much or feeling like you’re suffocating in your outfit… Fortunately, that way exists. Well, at least when it comes to comfortable activewear. Activewear is great — especially the ones that are built with stretchy materials and incorporate breathable fabrics like mesh and fleece. But unlike more buttoned-up clothing options that are made specifically for comfort, it can often lack in terms of design. After all, who wants to slow down their pace just because they’re wearing a sweatshirt?



Wear it right the first time

When you’re out and about during cooler months, it can be tempting to sport your favorite pieces in more laid-back styles. But that’s not always the best approach — especially if you have an active lifestyle. In fact, there’s actually some science behind this. When you’re active in the winter, you’re constantly sweating. Sweat doesn’t just come from your head — it’s happening all over your body. And when you’re constantly damp, it can cause some real issues. If you’re wearing a tank top with no layering underneath or a pair of leggings, you’ll feel that sweat in your clothes and it can lead to nasty chafing — and even infections.


Look for a couple key features

There’s a ton of great activewear out there — and a lot of it is super comfortable. But it can be hard to know what to look for during your search. A comfortable liner that’s stretchy, breathable, and lightweight is key. It should keep you feeling dry without restricting your movements or causing irritation. - Stretchy and form-fitting: If you’re wearing your activity-specific clothing outside of the gym, you’ll want to make sure your pieces are stretchy and form-fitting. That way, you’ll be able to move freely without feeling any constriction.


Keep in mind your personal fit preferences

Activewear can be super comfortable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right fit for you. That’s because you might be a smaller person who needs a smaller fit, or a larger person who needs a larger fit. While you don’t necessarily want to go out in flip-flops, you can definitely get away with wearing something that’s a bit more casual in terms of its construction. Sturdy and waterproof boots are a must, especially when you’re venturing into the wilderness or other areas that might be a little less accessible.


Strive for breathability and coverage

When it comes to comfortable activewear, you’ll want to make sure all your pieces are breathable and have some coverage. Dry, chafing skin is no fun — and it’s something you’ll want to avoid at all costs. So, be sure all your pieces are breathable and lightweight — with a touch of coverage thrown in. And, of course, you’ll also want to make sure all your pieces are moisture-wicking and quick-drying. This is especially important when you’re wearing activewear outside.


Protect from the elements

Activewear is great, but it’s not invincible — especially when it comes to weather protection. You’ll want to protect your activewear from the elements, especially when you’re wearing it outside. A good way to keep your clothing protected is by wearing a breathable and water-resistant jacket underneath your outside jacket. This will help you stay protected from the elements, while also blocking the rain or sleet or snow.
